To an increasing extent "sustainability" as a quality requirement is becoming an important choice in the market. A forester and/or trader in forest products has several reasons for choosing for certification.
Firstly - any company that ignores the sustainability of its supply is very vulnerable. Especially when (as with forests in some cases) the resource is being over-exploited.
Secondly - consumers are demanding quality-goods and -services, which are related to physical, but also to environmental quality. As a supplier of wood one has to prove that the products originate from a sustainable source. Certification guarantees the environmental quality of your products.
The Control Union Certifications (CU) Forestry Certification Programme gives its licensees the necessary distinction and advantage in the market with regard to the environmental quality of the products sold by them. CU does this by means of issuing the FSC trademark for forest management and chain-of-custody operations jointly or separately.
